Key findings

In its Concluding Observations on the latest periodic reports for Greece, CERD also examined the situation of minorities in Greece. It expressed its concern for the lack of recognition, under the legislative framework, of ethnic and ethno-religious minority groups, including Muslim ethno-religious minority groups living on the islands of Rhodes and Kos, which denies them their right to self-identification and may limit their enjoyment of their rights protected under the Convention, such as the rights to preserve their language and culture and freedom of religion and association (arts. 1, 2 and 5 of UNCERD).

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

Observations based on national reporting and the submission of various stakeholders including the Greek National Commission for Human Rights and NGOs.
